BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO DOC
Riserva 1971

"La Storica"

VINTAGE 1971
A rainy spring followed by a hot summer which ended with a perfect seasonal trend for the harvest. This was the first Riserva produced by Franco Biondi Santi, who took over at the helm of Tenuta Greppo in 1970.
ORIGIN
The 1971 Riserva was produced exclusively with estate grown grapes sourced from the oldest vines with over 25 years of age. This wine antecedes the registration of the proprietary BBS11 Sangiovese Grosso clone (Brunello Biondi Santi 11), which bears the name of the family. This clone was formally recognized in 1978.
AGEING
The 1971 Riserva was aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 3 years. It benefited from a long refinement in the bottle in the quiet and darkness of “La Storica”, the bottle library at Tenuta Greppo where all the historic vintages of Biondi-Santi Riserva are scrupulously kept.
TOPPING UP
This vintage was topped up and the cork was changed for the first time in 1987 and again in 2001.
