VINTAGE 1888
Extraordinary and historical vintage!! The first “eccezionale“ vintage of Brunello di Montalcino produced by Ferruccio Biondi Santi, probably he used grapes from vineyards of Scarnacuoia.
ORIGIN
The 1888 Riserva was produced exclusively with estate grown grapes sourced from the oldest vines with over 25 years of age. This wine antecedes the registration of the proprietary BBS11 Sangiovese Grosso clone, which bears the name of the family. This clone was formally recognized in 1978.
AGEING
The 1888 Riserva was aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 3 years. It benefited from a long refinement in the bottle in the quiet and darkness of “La Storica”, the bottle library at Tenuta Greppo where all the historic vintages of Biondi-Santi Riserva are scrupulously kept.
TOPPING UP
This vintage was topped up and the cork was changed for the first time in 1927, then in 1970 and again in 1985.
